Egna Legna Idir

An Ethiopian mutual-aid association whose members make regular contributions so bereaved families receive a death benefit, practical funeral help and community comfort. An elected board and member-approved constitution extend the traditional idir model across an immigrant community dispersed through the United Kingdom.

The association began after about fifty prospective members agreed that a standing shared fund and support network would be more reliable than emergency collections after a death.
