Great Star Theater (Cantonese Opera Home)
Historic 500-seat Chinatown theatre opened in 1925 and still the home of Cantonese opera in San Francisco. Now a nonprofit venue, it hosts yueju festivals, training programmes such as Jing Ying, and community seasons that keep the last remaining Chinese theatre in any U.S. Chinatown alive as a performing home rather than a museum.
Century-old stage that turned from commercial Hong Kong film and opera house into a community-centered nonprofit for traditional Asian arts. The physical room is itself a membership magnet.
