Trama Textiles

Quetzaltenango·Guatemalaest. 1988

A worker-owned cooperative of Maya women who practice and sustain traditional backstrap weaving across Guatemala's western highlands. Seventeen local weaving groups pool market access, elect a representative board and meet regularly to make decisions, review progress and protect cultural knowledge.

More than one hundred fifty weavers across five regions collectively own the nonprofit, with profits returned to members, their communities and shared programs.
