Plogtober (Mid-America Regional Council)
MARC-coordinated annual October plogging contest where counties and cities across the Kansas City metro compete for most participants and most litter picked. Virtual ploggers can sign up to clean their own neighbourhood any day in October; cities like Overland Park run their own sub-campaigns.
Cities and counties across the KC metro are explicitly pitted against each other on participant counts and litter picked, with rankings reported by jurisdiction at the end of the month.
Within each city, residents pool their virtual plogging contributions; municipal staff run group plogs, recruit neighbours, and publicise the city's standing to drive intra-city participation pride.
Multi-jurisdictional metro coordination is rare - it shows how an MPO (regional council) can run an inter-city/inter-county competition that creates city-level pride and intra-city cleanup teams. Distinct from one-city plogging events.
