Revolta Escolar / Protegim les Escoles

school-streets-civic-coalition · Barcelona + 8 other Catalan/Spanish cities · Started Dec 2020; ongoing 2024-2026 demands to Mayor Collboni

Pupil-and-parent-led monthly Friday roadblocks (first Friday of each month) demanding pacified school streets. 75+ schools across 8 cities have organized. Forced the city to expand its Protegim les Escoles programme from 26 schools toward all schools.

Areas compete

Schools in different neighborhoods (Sarria, Eixample, Gracia, Sants) and different cities (Barcelona, Sabadell, Terrassa, Mataro) coordinate the same first-Friday action - public count of how many schools per neighborhood take part creates inter-barrio pressure.

People support each other

Each participating school is anchored by its AFA (parents association) plus the neighborhood's residents' association, local shopkeepers and the school PE/transport team - hyper-local coalition per school.

Why this is worth knowing

Not a 'competition' in points form but a genuine inter-neighborhood mobilization tally with strong intra-neighborhood coalitions - directly relevant non-English variant for BelongHub.
