Walk with a Doc

Physician-led community walking groups · USA + 34 countries, 711 chapters / 560+ US communities · 2005-present

Free monthly walks anchored at parks/trails, each led by a local doctor or medical student. Format: 5-minute health-topic talk by the doc, then 45-60 min walk together. Designed for social connection + nature + physical activity + health education simultaneously. Open chapter model means anyone can start one.

Areas compete

Chapter density on the public 'Find a Walk' map is itself a soft competition - cities promote themselves on numbers of active chapters (e.g, Walk with a Doc Texas state network). National 'Walk with a Future Doc' chapter-growth campaigns spotlight top-growing regions.

People support each other

Each chapter is a recurring neighborhood ritual where doctors, patients and neighbors meet - the same residents return monthly so it builds real local relationships, not one-off events.

Why this is worth knowing

Demonstrates that a structured 'one program, thousands of micro-chapters' model can produce both place-comparison data and durable intra-neighborhood social ties - exactly the BelongHub pattern.
