CityCoins / Miami Voice (legacy but instructive)

City token / on-chain civic engagement · Miami, New York (active period) · 2021-2022 active, mechanics still referenced

Token tied to a city: 30% of mining yield went to the city government's wallet; holders could signal local priorities via the Miami Voice app. NYC briefly launched a NYCCoin variant. Real money flowed to Miami's treasury before the program lost momentum.

Areas compete

Miami vs. NYC: the two cities' tokens publicly competed on mining yield, price, and treasury inflows. An early experiment in city-vs-city token rivalry.

People support each other

Within Miami, holders voted on which local issues to highlight via Miami Voice; the wallet was held by the city to be spent on Miami-only initiatives.

Why this is worth knowing

Even though CityCoins fizzled, the mechanic of (a) city-vs-city token competition and (b) holders voting on local spending is a clean template. Worth cataloging on BelongHub as a 'what tried, what failed, why' case.
