Pingo Doce 'Escola Feliz' (Happy School)

Retail-funded civic donation / school equipment program · Lisbon district, Portugal · 2024-2026 (annual campaign)

Pingo Doce supermarket program: shoppers earn 'cromos' (tokens) per €20 spent via the loyalty app, with bonus cromos for fruit/veg purchases. Cromos are donated to schools, which exchange accumulated points for tech/sports/art equipment (tablets, robotics kits, projectors). Covers 1,000+ schools across Lisbon district.

Areas compete

Schools compete against each other for cromo donations; the more cromos a school accumulates, the more (and better) equipment it can claim. Schools across neighborhoods are essentially in a donation race during the campaign window.

People support each other

Parents, students, neighbors, and local Pingo Doce shoppers all donate their cromos to the same school. Explicit neighborhood-mobilization mechanic. Schools rally their local shoppers ('come spend at our Pingo Doce, donate your cromos to us').

Why this is worth knowing

Rare example of a corporate-retail program that creates real geographic neighborhood-vs-neighborhood competition via a shopping loop, with strong intra-neighborhood civic mobilization (parents, neighbors, alumni rally for 'their' school).
