BetterPoints

Council-run sustainable-travel reward app with workplace and area leaderboards · UK (Leicestershire, Leicester, Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire, Southwark, multiple boroughs) · 2014-2026 (active)

Council-funded mobile app that auto-detects walking, cycling, bus, train, car-share trips and converts to BetterPoints redeemable at local retailers. Councils customize challenges per borough.

Areas compete

Workplaces (Leicestershire ran one with 82 workplaces) and boroughs run head-to-head leaderboards. Council subscribes per area, so each council instance can pit its wards/workplaces against peer councils.

People support each other

Workplace teams compete internally (every council service represented in Renfrewshire), rallying colleagues. Points redeemable at LOCAL retailers. Keeps reward economy inside the borough.

Why this is worth knowing

Procured by UK councils as a service. Proves the model survives public-sector buying. The borough+workplace nesting is a useful template for BelongHub.

StatusLive; Leicestershire 2022 challenge had 82 workplaces competing; Renfrewshire ran multi-service workplace leaderboard
