STADTRADELN (CITY CYCLING)
Run by Climate Alliance, a 21-day campaign where municipalities sign up to compete on per-capita and absolute cycling kilometers. Mandatory team affiliation; tracked via the CITY CYCLING app GPS or paper log.
Municipalities compete head-to-head in national rankings on total km and km-per-capita. Local parliaments pedal alongside citizens. Political 'pride of place' incentive baked in.
Every rider MUST join a team (min 2 people) belonging to their municipality. Teams can spawn nested sub-teams (school classes, company departments), creating internal mutual-support pods. Workplaces and schools recruit colleagues/students for their municipal banner.
Mature, massive-scale (over a decade running, 1M+ riders) proof that the inter-area + intra-area double-loop works for sustainability. Mandatory team rule is a key design lesson.
