Energy Sparks

School energy/carbon competition platform with national, regional, and MAT scoreboards · UK (England, Wales, Scotland) · 2018-2026 (active)

Charity-run platform that pulls schools' smart-meter data into an energy-analysis dashboard for pupils and staff, with explicit competition layer.

Areas compete

National Scoreboard ranks 600+ schools on annual points. Regional scoreboards (London, etc.) and group scoreboards for Local Authorities and Multi-Academy Trusts pit nearby schools against each other. Monetary prize for winning school, restricted to fund a sustainability project.

People support each other

Within each school, pupils form energy-monitor teams who log actions, run switch-off days, and submit activities for points. The whole community (teachers, caretakers, pupils) collaborates to climb the league. Prize money MUST be reinvested in the school community.

Why this is worth knowing

Rare verified case of a real-data (smart-meter) inter-organization league with intra-organization team mobilisation. UK-wide and free for state schools. Strong evidence the model is sustainable.
