Hivemapper Network. Team Area Completion bonuses & customer Bursts/AOI bounties

DePIN / map-to-earn / city-completion bounties · Global (used heavily in US, EU, LATAM) · 2022-2026

Decentralized dashcam mapping network where drivers earn HONEY for road imagery. Customers (map data buyers) can post 'Bursts' / Areas of Interest bounties. HONEY put up for grabs on a defined city or polygon. When 100% coverage is achieved, the bounty is split among ALL contributors who helped, forcing local drivers to coordinate. Cities compete on the Global Map Progress dashboard, and region multipliers can be tuned up for under-mapped or high-value areas.

Areas compete

Cities/AOIs compete on percentage of road coverage; customers pick specific cities to fund completion bounties, so cities effectively race for HONEY. Hivemapper's Global Map Progress shows ranked coverage by region.

People support each other

Team Area Completion bonus is shared by EVERY contributor who helped reach 100% coverage of an AOI. Solo drivers can't unlock it, so locals must coordinate routes (split streets, fill gaps) on Discord/regional channels.

Why this is worth knowing

Rare DePIN example where the incentive is explicitly a SHARED team payout per geographic polygon, not individual mining. Closest thing to a 'block-vs-block' Web3 mechanic with real money.
